been having a few problems with the blog recently - not loading up properly it seems.
was at the eastern drugs and alcohol strategy annual seminar today (government funded drugs thing). and it was as boring as it sounds, apart from one thing that had me chuckling for a while. a guy called frank caddy who is the chief executive of the northern ireland drinks industry group, was giving a talk on whether the drinks industry and their marketing, etc. was to blame for some of the problems associated with alcohol abuse, underage drinking, street drinking, etc. he was doing okay for a while, better than i expected someone like him to do in a room full of drug workers, social workers, etc. then one guy let him have it with the kind of verbal dexterity most of us can only dream of. mr caddy had stressed the point over and over again that the drinks industry did not wish to make money out of people abusing their product, and were not responsible for any such abuse. if they had their way, he said, everyone would drink only moderately and noone would drink to excess and have a problem. a hand went up at the back of the room and very calmly asked the question, 'given that the industry does not promote the abuse of alcohol, i assume that you manufacture drinks such as buckfast for the benefit of the connoisseur ?' still makes me smile.

had the opportunity to do a godspace at the church of ireland chaplaincy at queens last night. it was great, lots of people did it and on the whole seemed to enjoy it. thanks to paddy for having us up to do it. below is one of the meditations we used.
found a local site called clublife, seems pretty good. all the local club nights, djs, reviews, etc., added it to the list on the right.
A meditation on Ephesians Ch.2 v.10
‘For we are God’s workmanship…’
A masterpiece is a piece of work produced by a master artist. Even if it just a doodle on a page. It is a masterpiece no matter what it is or what it looks like. You or I may be able to produce a more aesthetically pleasing image, but that is not the point. The status of the work is not dependent on the work itself but on the artist that produced it. Its value is not dependent on what it looks like but on the artist that painted it. Master artists produce masterpieces. The artist bestows worth on all his work.
We are God’s workmanship. We are masterpieces of the master God. No matter what you look like, no matter how you feel, no matter who you are, no matter what you have done. Your value is not dependent on you but on the one who created you. God bestows worth on you just like a master artist on his masterpieces.
Everything the master artist produces is a masterpiece.
